2010
Thomas Henry Bitter Lemon is one of 5 flavours of soft drinks produced in Germany. The drink is sold as a premium mixer, and a stand alone drink, similar to FeverTree from the UK.
Thomas Henry was one of the first people in the world to start selling soft drinks. He started in 1773 in Manchester, and it is disputed whether it was Thomas Henry or Schweppes that produced the first carbonated water for mass consumption.
In 2010 the brand was relaunched in Germany.
To Thomas Henry, an apothecary in Manchester, Eng., is attributed the first production of carbonated water, which he made in 12-gallon barrels using an apparatus based on Priestley’s. Jacob Schweppe, a jeweler in Geneva, read the papers of Priestley and Lavoisier and determined to make a similar device. By 1794 he was selling his highly carbonated artificial mineral waters to his friends.
