Ubuntu Trading Company Ltd
Ubuntu Cola is a Fairtrade Mark Cola from the UK (the first to be awarded the badge). The drink came to market in 2007 and now sells (apart from the UK) in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Ireland, Belgium, France, Italy and Switzerland. The cola is named after the African philosophy of Ubuntu and has no relation to the computer operating system other than the name. The drink is made with cane sugar (as opposed to high fructose corn syrup), and is sourced from various parts of Africa.
Each year the company gives at least 15% of its profits to the Ubuntu Africa Programme which support the sugar producers and their communities and encourages projects showing real entrepreneurship and creative ways to tackle poverty.
